Drive Units & Pokers
Buy Drive Units & Pokers
Drive Units and Concrete Pokers are a go-to buy for any contractor placing structural concrete — vibrating the mix to eliminate air pockets, improve density, and ensure full consolidation around reinforcement. Used correctly, they make a direct difference to the structural integrity and surface finish of a pour. Wenbro stocks drive units and flexible poker heads in a range of head diameters to suit different pour depths and reinforcement spacing. They work seamlessly alongside our Concrete Mixers for on-site batching operations, and for finishing once the slab is placed, our Power Floats deliver the surface quality required. All equipment is maintained in-house by Wenbro’s team.
Frequently Asked Questions
What poker head diameter should I use for my concrete pour?
Poker head diameter affects the radius of influence within the concrete. Smaller heads (25–38mm) suit pours with dense reinforcement or tight form access, while larger heads (50–75mm) cover more area per insertion and are better suited to open mass pours. As a rule, insertions should be spaced at 1.5 times the radius of action.
How long should a concrete poker be inserted at each point?
Typically 5–15 seconds per insertion point, until air bubbles stop appearing at the surface. Over-vibration can cause segregation of the mix, so timing and consistent technique matter. Withdraw the poker slowly at around 75–100mm per second to avoid leaving a void.
Can Drive Unit heads be interchanged between different poker sizes?
Most drive units accept interchangeable flexible shaft and head combinations, allowing you to switch poker diameters for different applications. Confirm compatibility between the drive unit and poker head before purchase — the Wenbro team can advise on 087 073 7777.
Are Drive Units and Pokers suitable for use with ready-mix and on-site batched concrete?
Yes — Drive Units and Pokers are effective on both ready-mix delivered concrete and on-site batched concrete from a Concrete Mixer. The vibration process is the same regardless of how the concrete was produced.
Does Wenbro service Drive Units and Pokers after purchase?
Yes — Wenbro’s in-house team handles servicing on all Drive Units and poker equipment sold through us, including motor and flexible shaft maintenance. Call 087 073 7777 for servicing arrangements or spare parts.
